Practice Principal

Full Time

Darrin grew up in Ipswich and attended Ipswich East State School and Ipswich Grammar, playing a heap of sport, like everyone did in East Ipswich.

He graduated from the University of Queensland 1985 and established Physioactive in 1988 with Anne Mitchell, who has recently retired. Darrin completed a diploma in Sports Physiotherapy in London in 1997 and then his Masters in Musculoskeletal physiotherapy at UQ in 1998. His areas of clinical interest extend to sports injury and spinal pain and he really enjoys working in the rehabilitation of post orthopaedic surgery patients, returning them to work and sport. He continues to work clinically and also in his role as a partner at Physioactive, where he has enjoyed the privilege of seeing so many great young physiotherapists develop their careers.

Darrin is married to Claire who also works at Physioactive. They have three adult sons, none of whom have followed their parents into the great career of physiotherapy, despite being on the receiving end of  countless incidences of sports injury rehabilitation. In his spare time, Darrin enjoys trying to stay fit, travelling, hiking, spending time at the coast as well as occasional boating and fishing. He attends his local Uniting Church and enjoys the company of good friends for a meal or a drink as often as possible. His favourite sport, as a spectator of course these days, is cricket in the summer and both of the rugby codes in winter.

Approaching his 40th year as a Physiotherapist, Darrin feels very fortunate to still enjoy working clinically and while he might not work as hard as he used to, he has no plans to stop treating anytime soon.
