What is a Clinical Physiotherapy Group (CPG) Class?

Yoga mat for Pilates and yoga

Our Clinical Physiotherapy Group Classes are exercise classes involving the application and modification of the Pilates approach combined with Physiotherapy evidence based exercise prescription for injury rehabilitation and prevention through the development of core stability.CPG focuses on the activation of the deep core muscles to stabilise your spine while also moving your limbs. We are able to alter the difficulty of these exercises by changing your body position or adding weights, resistance bands, balls or using the Reformers and changing the spring resistance. We do this in order to appropriately prescribe the level of exercise for each individual’s needs.

Some of our Physiotherapists also use the principles behind CPG and core stability retraining as part of their clinical treatment for a variety of conditions.

Before your CPG Class appointment

Prior to your first CPG session you will need to attend a Pre-CPG Assessment appointment with one of our Physiotherapists. This assists us to fully understand your goals, any musculoskeletal or general health conditions which may impact your CPG exercise prescription and provide you with information and skills you will use during your CPG session.

If you choose or are advised to continue CPG long term and are not regularly attending Physiotherapy appointments, we will ask you to book in for 6 monthly reviews with a Physiotherapist to reassess the condition we are treating and ensure your exercise prescription is still appropriate.

Your individualised CPG exercise program may change at any time based on recommendations from the Physiotherapists running the CPG sessions, your expressed requests or concerns, and your progress, to ensure the exercises you complete during the CPG sessions are always the most appropriate for you at any given time.

Class information

At Physioactive we offer group matwork and reformer sessions regularly. These sessions are all run by a Physiotherapist and are 45minutes in duration. The groups are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 6 participants in each session, to allow the Physiotherapist taking the session to provide individualised attention to each participant, assist clients and correct technique as required. Our sessions are scheduled on a number of different days at varying times to cater for your requirements. We also offer one-on-one/individual CPG sessions for those who have complex needs, are unsure if they will cope with these sessions or are unsure of group settings.

Pricing

CPG sessions are offered at $34.00 per session for both reformer and matwork. You can pay casually and claim your healthfund rebate on site. Your physiotherapist will guide you to work out which sessions are most appropriate to meet your needs.

If you are interested in booking a Pre-CPG Assessment, attending our CPG sessions or scheduling a 6 monthly review, please contact our administration team.
